Press Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE USPCS Announces $100,000 Capital Campaign
$50,000 in contributions already committed. October 01, 2005 The U.S. Philatelic Classics Society today announced the initiation of the Carroll Chase Fund, a capital campaign with the initial goal of raising $100,000 to fund projects that are beyond the current dues structure of the organization. As part of the campaign, fundraising for some current society projects will be combined into this new omnibus program. All projects funded by the Carroll Chase Fund will be specifically approved by the Board of Directors of the USPCS and will not be used for routine expenses. The society reiterated its commitment to fund ongoing expenses from member dues and to only use monies donated to the fund for special projects as part of this announcement. Donations to the fund can be made either without restrictions, or with funds earmarked for a specific project. "The USPCS has a long history of scholarship, publication and philatelic philanthropy. Currently, whenever funds are needed for an extraordinary expense, such as the acquisition of publishing rights or for another capital expense, we have gone to our members. With this campaign, we hope to build a fund that will make it easier to finance such activities, creating a philatelic legacy of which the contributors can be proud." said Wilson Hulme, President of the USPCS. Contributors to the Carroll Chase Fund will be acknowledged in the societyıs newsletter, The Chairmanıs Chatter, and contributors to the fund of amounts over $1,000 will be individually named in the publications or other activities financed by the Chase Fund. The Society currently has three activities specifically approved by the Board of Directors for which fundraising has either begun or is planned and are examples of the types of projects for which the fund may be used. These include: "Some of our activities will generate future funds for the society. However, having the Carroll Chase Fund in place will allow us to continue to help the hobby without the fits and starts currently required to avoid 'deficit spending,'" Hulme continued. "I am also pleased to say that we have received contributions totaling over $50,000 as of September 30, 2005. We are well on our way to making this the most successful fundraising efforts in our societyıs history and I would like to thank our past and future donors on behalf of all who will benefit from their donations." The society is happy to accept contributions by cash or check, as well as some other assets, such as negotiable securities. The USPCS is qualified under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 as an organization operated exclusively for charitable, scientific, literary or educational purposes. As such, contributors to the USPCS may be entitled to favorable treatment on their U.S. income tax returns. The society recommends that a potential donor consult with their tax advisor as to the proper treatment of a donation. Donations can be specifically earmarked for one of the currently approved projects, or donated for use at the Societyıs discretion. Contributions to the fund can be mailed to: Chase Fundc/o Joe Crosby Co-Chairman, Chase Fund 5009 Barnsteeple Ct.
