Press Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE USPCS Funds Seminar Room at APS Headquarters
November 12, 2005The U.S. Philatelic Classics Society today participated in the dedication of the U.S. Philatelic Classics Society, Inc. Room at the American Philatelic Center in Bellefonte, PA. A preliminary announcement of our intent to provide the funds for this classroom and conference room was made during the awards ceremony at the American Philatelic Society's (APS) Stampshow in August. The naming and furnishing of the conference room was funded by Classics Society member contributions to the Carroll Chase Fund, the Societyıs recently announced program to raise funds that can be applied to special projects outside of the normal activities of the Society. "The American Philatelic Center in Bellefonte, PA, the home of the American Philatelic Society (APS) and the American Philatelic Research Library (APRL) has quickly become the focal point for U.S philately. The USPCS is a "virtual organization" without a physical home of its own. We look forward to philatelists from around the world gathering at the USPCS conference room for programs that promote philately, enhance knowledge, and share friendship" said Wilson Hulme, President of the USPCS. "The conference room will also serve as the permanent home for the Societyıs cups and awards, which are presented every year for research, publishing, and service to philately." "The APS is thrilled that the USPCS has chosen to fund this conference room at the Center. The USPCS is one of the oldest chapters of the APS, and the history of our two organizations has been intertwined for decades," replied Robert E. Lamb, Executive Director of the APS. "We are confident that the conference room will be well used and we are pleased to have a place to publicly recognize the work of the USPCS and its members to promote scholarship of the classic issues of U.S. philately." Fundraising for the final furnishing of the room, to be know as "The U.S. Philatelic Classics Society, Inc. Room" is now underway and will likely house a display case with the annual awards given by the Society. The actual awards and previous winners can be viewed on the Awards Program page at the Societyıs website at www.uspcs.org/AwardsPrograms.html. All of the funds earmarked for the USPCS Room were donated by members of the USPCS, either directly or through contributions to the Societyıs Carroll Chase Fund. Approximately $30,000 of the $100,000 capital campaign was allocated by the Board of Directors for this use. Donations to the Carroll Chase fund specifically earmarked for the Society Room are still being accepted and will applied to this project. Any balance required will be funded from non-restricted contributions to the Chase fund. The USPCS is qualified under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. As such, contributors to the USPCS may be entitled to favorable treatment on their U.S. income tax returns. The Society recommends that a potential donor consult with their tax advisor as to the proper treatment of a donation. Contributions to the Carroll Chase Fund will be considered to be without usage restrictions unless the donor limits their use to a specific project. When possible, contributors to the Carroll Chase Fund of more than $1,000 will be acknowledged when funds are applied to a specific project. Further information on the Carroll Chase Fund can be found on the Societyıs website at www.uspcs.org/2005_09_ChaseFund.html.
