from the Collections of Dr. Charles J. DiComo
Over the past century, there have been many well-known students of the 3¢ Issue. Many of them left their mark in more than one way, as can be seen on the reverse of many of those same stamps we examine today. Each of them had a characteristic hand, which can be easily identified. Below are just a few examples of those plating marks.
The montage above is a bit of Dr. Chase history that I acquired from a friend in 2003. This sterling silver box was presented to Dr. Carroll Chase by the France & Colonies Group in 1946 in appreciation for his philatelic service. A wonderful memento for the 3 Cent 1851-61 Collector.
