The Smithsonian Philatelic Achievement Award honors Americans and individuals from around the world for outstanding lifetime accomplishments in the field of philately.
The U.S. Philatelic Classics Society is proud to announce that Past-President Richard F. Winter (photos) and USPCS members Cheryl R. Ganz and William H. Gross (photos) were awarded the Smithsonian Philatelic Achievement Award for 2016. The award, last presented in 2013, is given to individuals from around the world for their outstanding lifetime accomplishments in the field of philately. As per the Smithsonian website, “the achievements can include original research that significantly advances our understanding of philately and postal history; exceptional service to the philatelic community, and, the overall promotion of philately for the benefit of current and future collectors.”
This honor is one of the most significant and widely regarded awards that an individual can receive in the field of philately. As well, all three have previously been awarded the USPCS Distinguished Philatelist Award, the Society’s highest honor.
We wish to extend our congratulations to these most deserving individuals.
