The Westpex show took place in Burlingame, California, just south of San Francisco and a short ride from SFO. The theme for this year’s show was the 150th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union (UPU).
The Single-frame Grand was won by Michael Mahler for his “Stamp Tax on Nevada Territory Stock Certificates: the “25c Blaze of Glory” (also Single-frame Large Gold).
Three other Multi-frame Large Gold awards were won by Society members:
- Michael Mahler for “ California’s “Gold Rush Revenues”. Aristocrats of American Fiscal Philately, a Fiscal History” (also APS Award of Excellence: Pre 1900)
- Alfredo Frohlich for “ The United States of Colombia 1868-1881” (also COPAPHIL – Debby Friedman Award of Excellence)
- Timothy O’Conner for “ Postal History of the Thirteen Original Colonies 1634-1782” (also San Diego Stamp Show Award of Merit).
Gold continued with three members winning Single-Frame Large Gold:
- Larry Lyons for “ Honour’s City Express Post”
- Alfredo Frohlich for “ SCADTA – 1923: THREE PHILATELIC SOLUTIONS”
- Mark Banchik for “ Overprinted 1929 Black Airmail Official Stamps of Mexico .
