NAPEX – The Nation’s First-Class Stamp Show, a WSP event serving the greater Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. areas was held at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner on June 3-5. Many of our members exhibited and were in attendance with some of the highest awards being presented to our members.
Member Philatelic Exhibits
Hal Vogel brought home the Grand, Multi-Frame Large Gold and Postal History Society Special Award for his exhibit, American Heroic Age Polar Expeditions.
Clifford Alexander received the Grand, Single-Frame Large Gold for his Wiley’s One Cent City Despatch Posts – Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, M.D. exhibit.
For his Fourth Bureau Issue Paying Postage & Fees – 1922-1939 exhibit, William Fort was awarded a Multi-Frame Large Gold and Virginia Philatelic Award for Excellence. He also received a Multi-Frame Large Gold, Collector’s Club of Chicago Gold Medallion Award and American Airmail Society Large Gold Medal for his Wartime Transpacific Airmail Routes, 1939-1946 exhibit.
A Multi-Frame Large Gold, APS Research Medal and United States Stamp Society Statue of Freedom Award was given to John Hotchner for his Rejections and Repairs in U.S. Stamp Production at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, 1917-2003 exhibit. He also received a Multi-Frame Large Vermeil for his exhibit, Mail To and From American Prisoner of War During and After the Korean War.
Mark Schwartz received a Multi-Frame Large Gold, American FDC Society Award and NAPEX Stephen Luster Award for his The 5c Virginia Dare Stamp of 1937 exhibit. His Single-Frame exhibit, The Postal History of Gloucester, Massachusetts, and its Environs to 1851 was awarded Gold.
Kenneth Nilsestuen’s French Congo 1900 Pictorial Issue Multi-Frame exhibit received a Gold and France & Colonies Philatelic Society Award.
A Multi-Frame Gold was presented to Daniel Ryterband for his The American Civil War: The Anaconda Plan exhibit. His American Civil War: Through the Lines Prisoner Mail exhibit received a Single Frame Gold.
America’s Membership Libraries, 1731-1910 exhibited by Larry Nix was awarded a Multi-Frame Gold. His other Multi-Frame exhibit, America’s Libraries – The Stamp received a Vermeil, APS Medal of Excellence Post-1980 Material award and ATA First Award.
John Schorn exhibited The 21 Giannini Definitive of 1973 and received a Multi-Frame Large Vermeil.
For his The “First U.S. Six Cents Postal Stationery Envelope exhibit, Dan Undersander was the recipient of a Single Frame Large Gold and United Postal Stationery Society Single Frame Award.
With his Single Frame exhibit, Stait’s Despatch Post: #2 in Philadelphia, Richard Lomax was awarded a Vermeil.
Lawrence Gregg’s Airmail Covers of the United States – 1918-1934 exhibit received a Single Frame Vermeil and American Airmail Society Silver Medal.
