by Creighton C. Hart
Creighton Hart was one of the early researchers, especially studying the Postal History of the 1847 Issue. His exhibit was an early example of how to show the entire breadth and depth of the issue. Along with Susan M.l McDonald, Hart co-authored the “Directory of 10¢ 1847 Covers” which was published in 1970, and expanded by Hart afterwards. Tom Alexander then added to it in The United States 1847 Issue: A Cover Census, published in 2001 by the US Philatelic Classics Society. Subsequently, Mark Scheuer took all the information in the Alexander book, added hundreds of new covers, and it now resides on the USPCS web site:

Hart received the American Philatelic Society’s Luff Award for Distinguished Philatelic Research in 1970.
