A sampling of plated examples of Plate 1L Experimental Orange Brown shades produced during the transition period of printing with the true Orange Brown pigments to the Brownish Carmine pigments. These stamps can be identified by their early impressions, as well as their distinctive waxy-appearing color.
A fantastic pair of covers. These XF singles were from the same sheet of Plate 1L Experimental Orange Brown’s used quite late in November of 1852 (confirmed by internal manuscript-dated header).
