THE INSPIRATION FOR THE DESIGN
The use of the recently assassinated Garfield on the 6¢ was to remain in place on this value until 1909.
VARIETIES
The only known variety is the imperforate printing. There is some dispute as to if this is a proof (Scott # 224P2) or an issued stamp (Scott # 224a).
